fahrenheit 9/11
Moore's documentary about Bush's response to 9/11 is very biased. While Moore uses some facts and evidence to make his point, about Bush's lack of responsibility and ability to be president he more often just refers to his personal opinions of Bush as a president. From the beginning of the documentary it is very clear the Moore is not a fan of Bush and wishes that he wasn’t president. While it is ok to have an opinion and make that opinion clear, you can't let your opinion get in the way of the actual facts of the event. Moore is clearly more interested in showing embarrassing clips of Bush that make him look stupid, than actually presenting the facts and showing evidence. Moore continually flashes clips of Bush that could make anyone believe that he is an inadequate president, and shows very little factual evidence that he was a bad president. I think Moore's video is hard to believe because of the overwhelming bias that he shows against Bush. His slanted views make it hard to trust what he says.

I think that Moore’s critique of Bush is somewhat fair. However he makes many exaggerations throughout the documentary. Some of his criticism is fair because Bush should have known about the threat before it happened. Bush’s response was also very questionable. He stayed at the school while he should have been doing something about the event. Some of the footage Moore shows is edited to show what he wants you to see. He also takes a very obvious bias against Bush so people will not want to believe what he has to say. He also uses dramatic music to try and change your opinion. The point he makes about Bush and his businesses always being bailed out at the last minute by Saudi Arabian companies is a good one however. I think both Moore and Nyhan have good points and they are both right. However Moore is much more biased and therefore is harder to believe.
ReplyDeleteMoore's documentary was pretty much based off of HIS opinion. He did a good job with effects and influencing Americans to dislike Bush though. He used dramatic music and the way he put different video clips together was very creative. It influenced me some actually. If the film was based solely off of facts, it wouldn't have been as dramatic and probably woudn't have been such a hit. I think facts & opinions are two different things that should be seperated. He created the film in his own little way to manipulate citizens, epecially those who were having a hard time deciding who to vote for in the 2004 election. That was his ultimate goal. For Bush not to win the next election. Not to state facts to the public.
