The impact of 9/11 on our culture
Directly after September the response was overwhelming, people were willing to do anything to help out the cause. Right after the devastating events of September 11th occurred people were scared to say anything that might be considered offensive or un-American, but now that 10 years have passed the impact made by September 11th on our culture is barely visible. The only lasting impact is airport security and the stigma that now comes with being of Middle Eastern descent. I think for the most part pop culture has gone unchanged by September 11th, even though it was such a dramatic event that should have had more of a lasting impact.

After 9/11 people were very cautious with what they said so that they wouldn’t offend anybody. Nobody wanted to say anything that would get them in trouble. However, today people don’t really stop and think before saying something like they did back in 2001. In the days after 9/11, the country was very united and everyone was behind the president at the time. Today that isn’t the case. It also had a big impact on our nation’s security. Before 9/11 you could get a lot of potentially harmful items through airport security. Now that would be nearly impossible because of the heightened security. Overall I think that 9/11 made some changes to the nation that in the end will help us. For example we are much less vulnerable to an attack due to the changes in security. It also made us change our communications between agencies like the FAA and the military, that will hopefully make it so that something like this doesn’t happen again.

ReplyDeleteI agree with Luke that many changes that came from 9/11 were beneficial to our country. Many of the changes that were made after 9/11 make our country safer and more effective in case of a national emergency. Now that changes have been made to communication between the military and the FAA I don't think that anything like 9/11 will be able to happen again.
ReplyDeleteFor the most part, I don't think pop culture, or America as a whole, has changed drmatically. Even though it was a very tragic event and all, the only thing that's changed is airport security. It's become much more strict. The government as a whole has become more protective, abd has this kind of over protecting attitude towards the country and has raised security measures. Also, people of Eastern decent nowdays may go through harassment, and assumptions of them being terrorists. They are also probably watched harder in airports. Other than that, for the most part 9/11 isn't something that American's think of every single day. Well, I'm sure the victims' family & friends do, and Americans do when they show all those sad specials on tv, but other than that, not so much.
